Metrology Engineer (R+D and Product Development) - £32,500 p/a + pension + share options - Bristol, UK
The Role
Due to rapid expansion, we are pleased to be recruiting a Metrology Engineer to help support our growing portfolio of metrology related projects. We are looking for a candidate that has the ambition and proactive approach to help lead this development.
After suitable training the metrology engineer will take a leading role in a range of technical metrology projects. This may include client facing work and internal technical development projects. The work will be conducted in a range of environments including metrology laboratories, manufacturing facilities and client offices. This is a demanding but exciting role for the appropriately skilled person.
The key responsibilities of a Metrology Engineer include, but are not limited to:
- Leading new technology development activity as part of our internal R+D and product development initiatives
- Carrying out studies on measurement systems to acquire capability data
- Taking responsibility of the project management of client projects
- Conducting part measurements using a variety of equipment, software and techniques
- Advising, developing and delivering metrology processes and plans for our clients

We have a team of metrology and manufacturing experts who each bring specialist knowledge across the fields of design, working across a range of industries including energy, automotive, medical and aerospace.
The Person
The key skills and qualities of a Metrology Engineer:
- BEng/MEng or PhD mechanical engineering (Maths, Physics or similar) combined with at least 2-5 years of relevant hands on industry experience of technical development related to new instrumentation, automation or manufacturing related technology
- Able to conduct repeatability and reproducibility trials; and compile measurement uncertainty budgets
- Understanding of robot verification, calibration and control using measurement data; of how to do an intelligent teach routine; and of KRL/RAPID/etc.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, able to manage their time and ensure consistent delivery without micro-management from the team
A working and theoretical knowledge of the following metrology systems and software would be desirable though training will be provided on specific systems: laser trackers, photogrammetry, spatial analyser software, polyworks software, and CATIA V5 or other similar CAD packages.
Other desirable skills include electronics, photogrammetry algorithms, image processing, and C#.
